The Virtual Listening Lab

If you are enrolled in any of several foreign language courses you may access audio and video materials on line in the Virtual Listening Lab. Your instructor will furnish you with a username and password. Where possible, the chapters or lessons are broken up into sections corresponding to those in accompanying printed material. With the exception of Swahili files*, all audio segments are delivered as MP3 or Quicktime files. MP3 files are supported by the Quicktime Player, Windows Media Player, WinAmp, and RealPlayer. To download the Quicktime plug-in for Mac or Windows, click here. Generally, there should be only very minor delays in audio file access. If you experience long delays, it is probably because of a high level of network activity. Try accessing the files at a later time. If problems persist, please email the FLRC , to report them. Due to their relatively large sizes, video files will invariably take longer to download. You may play these files from any networked computer, though off-campus dialup connections will be too slow to make listening and, expecially, viewing practical. Any networked computer on-campus should play these files without difficulty. You will not be able to copy most files to your computer. *Swahili files can be played as MP3 files or as RealAudio streams. The RealAudio streams may have the edge in quality.
